Biography

Following the completion of his master’s degree in chemistry from Haverford College in 1940, Clark Eugene Bricker began graduate work at Princeton University. Shortly after, he worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II and later became an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University. Professor Bricker returned to Princeton in the role of Professor of Analytical Chemistry from 1948 to 1961. He concluded his teaching career at KU as Director and Coordinator of Freshman Chemistry from 1963 to 1983. His skills as a teacher were legendary. Professor Bricker received the most prestigious KU educator award four times during his tenure. During his sabbaticals, he served as a science demonstrator for the United States Information Agency and traveled to numerous Eastern European and African countries. Professor Bricker passed away at

the age of 75 in 1994. The Bricker ChemScholars program for KU Chemistry students was established in his name, carrying on his legacy and aiding exceptional undergraduate chemistry students.
