Organic chemistry and enzymology: reaction mechanisms, bioorganic chemistry, catalysis, isotope effects
Professor Schowen has closed his research groups and is publishing results from those groups and his work with colleagues at Kansas and elsewhere. The latter programs included studies of antiparasitic drug design for S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase, led by R.T. Borchardt; protium-deuterium exchange in the amorphous solid state as a measure of protein mobility, led by Elizabeth M. Topp (Purdue University); and quantum tunneling and isotope effects, led by H.-H. Limbach (Free University of Berlin).
