Investigating New Chemistry of Reactive Intermediates

Research

Professor Landgrebe’s research has involved the study of the mechanisms (pathways) of reactions of both theoretical and synthetic interest. A variety of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques have been routine components of this work. Isotopic labeling, kinetic measurements, and the use of stereochemistry have helped to elucidate interesting and unexpected mechanistic pathways. Modern synthetic techniques have been employed to prepare required starting materials, suspected stable intermediates, and products.

Since retirement in 2002, Professor Landgebe focused on the sixth edition of his laboratory text, “Theory and Practice in the Organic Laboratory – with Microscale and Standard Scale Experiments,” now published by Brooks/Cole in 2005. He continues to develop new and revise previously published experiments for the undergraduate organic laboratory. Those listed below are available upon request.

Jack has also been trained as a Douglas County Master Gardener and is actively involved in that organization’s mission to bring research-based information on home horticulture to the citizens of the county.
