Peter Hierl: May 17, 1941 - February 18, 2022

The department mourns the loss of Emeritus Prof. Peter Hierl. Peter began his independent career at KU in 1969 and taught in the department of chemistry for 45 years. Born in Brooklyn New York, Peter earned his undergraduate degree from MIT in 1963 and carried out his doctoral studies at Rice University, earning his Ph.D. in 1966.  His research focused on the gas phase reactions of ions and molecules and his collegiality and humor will be missed.  His obituary can be found on the Lawrence Journal-World's website.
